How to distinguish pus from lymph?

Normal Reaction

Lymph

The presence of lymph is a normal reaction. It is white, clear-white, or ecru. Upon drying, it forms crusts in shades of yellow, orange, or light red (if mixed with plasma).

Infection

Pus

A clear sign of infection. The area is swollen, painful, and very red. The discharge is thick, yellow-green or brownish-yellow, smells bad, and does not dry out.

How to deal with swelling?

Choose one method and use it for about a week. Do not mix methods.

1

Baking Soda

Compresses

1 teaspoon of soda per 1/2 cup of lukewarm water. Soak a gauze pad, apply for 10 min. 2x a day.

Rinsing (Oral)

Flat tablespoon of soda per cup of warm water. Rinse thoroughly 2-3x a day. Do not swallow.

2

Sage

Compresses

1 sachet per 1/2 cup of boiling water. Let cool. Compress for 15-20 min, 2x a day for min. 5 days.

Rinsing (Oral)

2 sachets per 0.5l boiling water. Rinse or drink cooled infusion 2-3x a day and after meals.

How long does a piercing heal?

  • Earlobe

    2–4 months
  • Cartilage (Helix, Conch, etc.)

    3–6 months
  • Demanding (Industrial, Navel)

    6–9 months

Time depends on the organism and aftercare. Consult your piercer before changing to target jewelry.

When to change jewelry?

First change (downsizing) usually after

4-6 weeks.

Self change?

Not recommended for fresh piercings. The channel may close or get irritated. It is safest to do it in the studio with sterile tools.

Which earring to start with?

Must be sterile and of medical grade material.

  • Titanium G23 / ASTM F-136 – Medical standard, ideal for allergy sufferers.
  • Bioplast – Biocompatible, nickel-free.

Plastic and Acrylic?

Not suitable for fresh piercings.

They may contain toxins, and the porous surface promotes bacteria. Use only in healed channels, e.g., for imaging tests (unless you choose Bioplast).

Pool and Sea

Pool: Definitely not. Chlorine and bacteria pose an infection risk.

Sea: Salt water can dry out and irritate.

Avoid soaking for 3–5 months

Nipple piercing and breastfeeding

Usually has no effect. Once healed, ducts function correctly. The jewelry does not cut the nipple but passes through tissue.

Jewelry must be removed during feeding. Planning pregnancy? Wait a few months after piercing for full healing.

I can't unscrew the ball

Only on healed piercings!

  • 1. Use latex/rubber gloves (better grip).
  • 2. Grip through a slightly damp tissue.
  • 3. Gently use pliers protected with material.

Anodization

Electrolytic process creating a colored oxide layer on titanium. Increases resistance, allows for color (gold, purple, blue) safe for fresh piercings.

Resonance (MRI)

Titanium is not magnetic, but to be sure, it is better to switch to Bioplast. The decision belongs to the medic.

Is a bump near the piercing a Keloid?

Not always. Often it is just a bump from irritation, pressure, or impact ('granulation tissue'). If the lesion is soft and fluid-filled, it is usually not a keloid. When in doubt, consult us.
